Bake Sale for a Cause

Today, the Model UN held its first bake sale for the Smile Train Charity. We sold a variety of homemade goods, such as cookies, brownies, rice krispies, muffins, and much more. We are so grateful for the support we received from our fellow students, as well as the teachers who bought our goodies.

We will continue to hold bake sales throughout the year to achieve our goal of helping as many children as we can.

Thank you to all our members for contributing their time and effort. Job well done, ladies!
And thank you to all our supporters!

God bless.

Help Us With Hoodie Designs!

hey everyone!

One of fundraising ideas this year is to have Model UN hoodies. It would benefit our mission to help Smile Train, save up for a conference, and just to have awesome hoodies to wear.

Here are some samples from LEAVERSHOODIES.COM of a Club Hoodie...

If you're artistic or know someone who is, share your ideas! We'll decide as a club what color the hoodies will be, but the design submissions will be open to anyone in school or outside. When thinking of design, think of general themes that relate to our club. We don't need too many things on the hoodie, keep it simple. We want to be able to wear them at dressdowns and even outside of school.
The quote we'll have on the hoodie regardless of design is the official MUN quote:

"When the power of love overcomes the love of power, the world will know PEACE."
- Jimi Hendrix

The website we'll be ordering the hoodies from is Leavers Hoodies, so feel free to browse through their site for ideas of how you can design the hoodie and stuff.

NO MEETING THIS FRIDAY

Hey ladies,

Just wanted to inform you that because this friday our early dismissal is at 2:10 instead of 1:45, I don't think we'll have enough time to do all that we plan to do, especially watching the film I mentioned.

However, I may call a lunch meeting during the week, depending on whether or not our bakesale proposal gets approved. So just listen to the PA announcements or check updates here.

Hope you all had a fun weekend!

The Smile Train Charity

Our mission this school year 2010-2011 as the Model United Nations Club is to help children born with cleft lips and palalates.

Unlike many charities that do many different things, The Smile Train mission is focused on solving a single problem: cleft lip and palate.

Clefts are a major problem in developing countries where there are millions of children who are suffering with unrepaired clefts. Most cannot eat or speak properly. Aren’t allowed to attend school or hold a job. And face very difficult lives filled with shame and isolation, pain and heartache.

The good news is every single child with a cleft can be helped with surgery that costs as little as $250 and takes as little as 45 minutes.

This is our mission:

-To provide free cleft surgery for millions of poor children in developing countries
-To provide free cleft-related training for doctors and medical professionals.
